Songs Our Kids Should Know

Music is one of the first visceral connectors for babies. As parents, we have to set the tone for giving girls and boys a foundation in music, if for no other reason than to spare us from the scourge that is The Wiggles.

Whether they become virtuoso performers or just fully formed humans with a good ear for a hook and an appreciation for true musicianship, we have to open their ears, their hearts and minds, their spirits to musical expression.

Eventually, our children pick their own music, particularly — or especially — if it annoys us. I remember hearing this for the first time and felt the scales fall from my eyes. I couldn’t wait to watch our sons feel it. They still do, when we’re together and, even better, when they don’t think I hear them listening to it. So, listen to Ray Charles and his original studio version of “What’d I Say”, then compile a list of songs that you want to add to create the Daddy Daily “Songs Our Kids Should Know” playlist!
