Do You Still Dance Through Puddles?

Posted by
There’s always time to dance through a sprinkler, even — or especially — at this time in our lives.

I am sitting in my home office. It’s in the attic, facing the street. I am looking out the window, trying to find the perfect word for a sentence I am writing, when a young family comes down the sidewalk. Two kids on bikes, mom and dad with their head buried in their phones.
We were watering grass seed on the front lawn and the strip between the sidewalk and the street. As the sprinkler threw water across the walk, the kids speed up, scream “This is so much fun!” The distracted parents walk into the middle of the spray, cursed, and gave our house the death stare — as the kids turn their bikes around and time their re-entry to maximize their shower.
We all get whacked by unexpected forces. It’s not going to stop. It doesn’t hurt to have some fun along the way or at least embrace the surprise, share a human moment, or dance your way through the puddle. It costs nothing to show your kids that you’re capable of joy. #inthistogether #findtimetolaugh #funwithkids
